DIY with LCD: Ugly Xmas Sweaters & Candles

It's that time of year again! What better way to get into the holiday spirit than with a DIY candle making and ugly Christmas sweater party? For this DIY day, the LCD Team looked for inspiration or came up with a design on the spot to create some of the best ugly sweaters we've seen! To top off our team building day, everyone brought in a special container and scent to create a candle for the Holiday season. The candles were easy and fun and make for a great gift! Scroll below to see the LCD Team designs up close.

The Neo-Craftsman Style Home Before & After

From a traditional ranch style home to neo-craftsman, this whole house renovation was nothing less than spectacular! To bring the homeowners vision to life, the LCD Team combined Craftsman style with Modern touches. All of the materials were thoughtfully selected from the hand-painted tile, iron hardware, nickel lighting, and unique stone countertops. The focal point in craftsman design is artisan details with respect to the wood carpentry. These craftsman details can be seen throughout the house with quarter-sawn oak cabinetry in the kitchen cabinets, media room bookcases, fireplace mantel, and custom staircase. To see the before and after photos of this Neo-Craftsman Style Home scroll below.

Before

The exterior façade was transformed using a craftsman style lighting, woodwork, and color palette.

Before
After
The existing kitchen walls were removed to create an open family friendly floorplan. The focal point of the kitchen is the custom-made iron range hood. Additional elements include hand-painted tile and countertops in a muted craftsman color palette.  The built-in kitchen cabinetry remains true to the traditional craftsman style and was created with quarter-sawn oak.

Before
After
The original bedroom had a standard eight-foot ceiling. Once the ceiling was removed to open into a cathedral ceiling the hidden structural beams provided architectural detail to enhance the craftsman style. The bedroom was then finished with built-in stained bookcases, bed frame and furniture pieces.

Before
After
To enhance the California indoor-outdoor lifestyle an extraordinary infinity pool and Jacuzzi were added to the landscape. Additionally, a covered patio with built-in BBQ provides a sheltered location for family dining al fresco. And to complete the ensemble, everyone enjoys watching the extraordinary LA city lights while gathered around the fire pit.

Building a Home with Habitat for Humanity

For our November Giving, LCD, in partnership with Xerox Community Involvement Program (XCIP), got the opportunity to help build a home with Habitat for Humanity in Long Beach! Habitat for Humanity's goal is to eliminate poverty by providing houses throughout the world – starting in our own backyard. The homes are built by volunteers and the families who will live in them. This is a symbol of hope in the community and a tangible sign that the differences which divide us can be overcome when people choose to work together. The LCD Team helped bring the project one step closer to completion by painting siding and installing insulation and drywall.

Habitat for Humanity & the Xerox Community Involvement Program (XCIP)!

When we arrived to the site, we were excited to see what stage the construction of the homes were at. We found at they were at the end of the framing stage! To see what the project would look like once complete, the Habitat for Humanity team had on site a color rendering of the end result. We know the families will love them!

Chelcie & Lauren take a picture before being assigned
their job for the day! Safety goggles required.

Each volunteer is encouraged to write a note on the framing of the home to leave a footprint of the hard work and love that was put into it. The Habitat for Humanity team says the families can truly feel the love behind the walls and are forever grateful to all the volunteers.

Thank you to Xerox Community Involvement Program for including us on their build day!

Happy Home Refresh

This Happy Home is nestled in a cul-de-sac in the Southbay and has the most relaxing backyard retreat. The lovely couple who lives here asked LCD, Inc. to assist them in refreshing their home with an updated look. To give the homeowners what they were looking for, the LCD team refreshed the home's exterior finishes, added outdoor furniture, refinished the hardwood floors, and installed beautiful doors throughout the house.

The backyard oasis is the perfect retreat for reading or relaxing by the fire pit. The newly installed motorized awning helps to control sunlight, and the copper rain chains add a unique visual element.

The new outdoor furniture pairs well with the home's exterior finishes and also provides a relaxing spot to take in the sunset and views of the South Bay.

Gorgeous, eco-friendly doors have been integrated throughout the home, creating a cohesive and an updated look.

Dark hardwood floors provide a rich contrast against the beautiful area rug, which ties together the living and dining room spaces.

DIY with LCD: 5 Household Items Transformed

Many of us have items around the house waiting to be discarded, instead these items can be transformed into functional pieces. The LCD Team decided to use some of these household items to create objects we can use everyday. Click the image below to see the 5 household items the LCD Team transformed. From coffee cans re-purposed as hanging planters to a broken tea pot turned into beautiful Japanese-inspired art.

Macramé Planters
Turn empty coffee cans into a beautiful
hanging garden. This macramé planter
will add life to any room!
(Display Model: Kat)

Materials: String, paint, key ring, & coffee tins.
Level of Difficulty: Medium (Once you figure out how to knot the holder, it's pretty easy to create!).
Decorating Tip: Use a couple coats of paint for an even finish.

Pencil Holders & Succulent Pots
What better way to keep your work space organized
and beautiful! Add these two items for a quick
desk makeover.

Materials: Food cans/jars, paint, hot glue gun, & sea glass.
Level of Difficulty: Easy (Follow the ridges on the can to paint a straight line with ease).
Decorating Tip: Set in front of fan for quick drying.

Kintsugi Tea Pot
Bring a broken tea pot back to life with this kintsugi-inspired technique - The Japanese art of repairing broken pottery.

Materials: Broken pottery, gold leaf paint, & epoxy.
Level of Difficulty: Medium (epoxy was hardest to work with before it dried & gold leaf paint was easy).
Decorating Tip: I'm sure everyone has a piece of broken pottery to work with. Don't throw it away, bring it back to life with kintsugi!

T-shirt Bag
Out with plastic, in with cotton. Turn an old t-shirt
into your new reusable grocery bag!
Farmers market approved.

Materials: T-shirt, scissors, needle, & thread.
